Turkey ready to increase military coop. with Iran

TEHRAN, Aug. 10 (MNA) – Turkey’s Gendarmerie Commander General Arif Çetin has said that the forces under his command are ready for more cooperation with Iranian border guards.

General Arif Çetin made the remarks in a meeting with Iran's border police commander, Brigadier General Ghasem Rezaie, in Boralan located in the northwestern Iranian Maku county, West Azerbaijan Province on Friday morning.

“Iran and Turkey have been two brother and friend countries, and the borders cannot separate the two nations and states,” General Çetin said in the meeting.

"Due to the firendhsip between the two countries, the shared borders enjoy full security," he added.

Stressing the need for fighting against human and drug trafficking and smuggling of goods, Turkey’s gendarmerie commander expressed his country’s readiness to increase cooperation with Iran in terms of exchanging information and other kinds of military cooperation.

Iran's border police commander, in turn, said in the meeting that the tripartite meeting of Iranian, Turkish and Azerbaijani border guards are held with the aim of increasing border cooperation.

Stating that the meetings and border cooperation between the two nations and governments of two brother and friend countries of Iran and Turkey will pave the way for more unity and integration, Brigadier General Rezaie also said “there are no border and security problems between the countries of Iran and Turkey, and the border guards of both countries are seeking to promote security and peace in the region.”

Iran's border police commander further stressed the need for facilitating the movement of goods and people across the border crossings of Bazargan in Maku, Sarv in Urmia and Razi in Khoy counties, West Azerbaijan.
